HSE launches national workplace accident reporting telephone line

On April 1st 2001 the HSE issued a single telephone number which allows the reporting of workplace accidents and illnesses. The new contact unit is called the Incident Contact Centre and once reported to the centre there is no need to follow up the accident in writing.

This should simplify the UK's reporting system and will replace more than 500 telephone numbers and addresses that were in use. Any accident which comes under the scope of the RIDDOR regulations can be reported in this way. The telephone number to use is 0845 300 9923. The fax number is 0845 300 9924. Calls are charged at local rates.

You can also report via email at riddor@natbrit.com or via their web site - click here

If you prefer the old fashioned way then the central address for normal post is:

Incident Contact Centre, Caerphilly Business Park, Caerphilly, CF83 3GG

A leaflet explaining the changes is available free of charge reference MISC310 from HSE Books on 01787 881165.
